Grounding/brightness issues

So I just bought a new tweed 2x12, that is killer.

I put my speakers in it, get everything plugged up, only to find my guitar not only has a lose ground somewhere, but also my amp sounds EXTREMELY bright and harsh.

I haven't had time to fix the ground yet, I'll have to deal with it tomorrow. My question is is the grounding problem the culprit for the harshness, or is there something amp wise I need to be worried about?

Thanks!

Re: Grounding/brightness issues

Are the speakers wired to produce the correct ohmage, and did you set your amps output to match that same ohmage?

Edit...new speakers can sometimes sound harsh and bright when they are not broken in, but they shouldn't sound bad. Did you wire the cab, or did it come wired?

Re: Grounding/brightness issues

Sounds like the speakers are out of phase with each other

Re: Grounding/brightness issues

BTW, why is everyone posting amp threads in the GUITAR SHOP??

there is a seperate place specifically for amps.

wheres the admins lately??

shhhhh, dont wake them:27:

:laugh2:

Re: Grounding/brightness issues

^this thread is about my guitar being unproperly grounded, not about my amp.

The speakers are wired individually to each output jack. One is hooked up to the two original speaker wires in the amp (where there is no longer a speaker in the amp, instead an additional output jack) and one is plugged into the extension speaker jack. The speakers are hooked up correctly, as I have had them hooked up this way before, only they have been in two seperate cabs which I built myself and now there in the same cab.

The problem is my guitar, becuase when I let go of the strings there is a loud hum, and it goes away when you touch the strings or bridge. (loose ground)

My question is will a loose ground cause brightness/harshness?

Re: Grounding/brightness issues

HAHAHA ok I guess I was wrong this was about my amp.

Well I went ahead n did what I was too stubborn to do before. I switched the connectors on the jensen and bam! Problem solved. I had never heard 2 speakers out of phase before, but I didn't think it would be that drastic! This also got rid of most of the noise.

Of course now I feel like an idiot, but I did learn something.

Thanks bros!

ps: sorry for posting in the wrong forum for the second time, I haven't really been around this forum since amp central has been here, im just gettin used to it! wont happen again
