Guess what day it is?............... Happy happy new Guitar Day for this old slob!!!!

Just got done setting this up. Got it for a great price at a local shop. It was on consignment. I got over to play it today after work, plugged it in....the guy handed me the cord and said be careful with the volume. I said ok.

I plugged into a Roland XL tuned up the nasty nasty strings....ugh they were gross I mean filthy dirty.
Grime on the back of the neck.... I rubbed my shirt all over it real hard to clean it up enough to play it. Ebony....ooooh yes.
After 2 minutes, the shop owner and his 2 workers started huddling around me... telling me to turn it up ha ha ha it was almost creepy....
I really liked playing it, but man the money is soooo tight right now....ugh!

I unplugged and walked it back up front.
Did you like it he asked? I said "I can't walk out of here without it...."

They took all... I mean ALL of my money, and bagged it. The guy behind the counter said "you're the best guitarist I've ever heard, what band are you in because you play awesome!" I told him he must not get many players in this shop.... ha ha ha Wayne's World!

I brought her home, stripped of the grime front and rear, wiped it all off, Dr. Stringfellows'd the fretboard, put some new strings on it, glued in some Schaller straploks, hooked up plugged in, tuned and tuned and MAN! I am truly in love with this guitar. Thanks for talking me into it guys seriously. I may sell a few off now. It plays just right, fast, I can really really here the difference in the 500t, it suits my sound here on the Marshall very well. the instrument is balanced well, light weight, holds notes forever, I am really really pleased with it.

I am kind of digging the open grain feel and look...

Awesome. Exactly like the two I had. That first one was a beast. Light, played itself, and really sang. even with the stock pickups. I posted a clip here, running through various amp sims on my little modeler, and some of the guys thought It had a set of PAF types in it because it was so sweet.

Congrats :bigthumb:

Awesome!! Congrats!!! I really liked mine. Want another, but cant justify it. Really want a black one with a mirror guard to match my explorer.

I got mine for slightly less, but had some bruises. Yours looks pretty cherry... no pun intended

Very cool brother.

The 500T is also one of my favorite high gain pups. It crunches so nicely. :D

Very nice got to love a V ! If it was mine would have sanded the paint off neck and tung oiled it already. A Babicz bridge and some Planet Waves trim lok tuners and a Graphtech Tusq XL nut would be perfect till I wear the frets off it and put some nice fat stainless steel on it too !

I've wanted a red V since I was 13, but never pulled the trigger for whatever reason.

This poster was in the middle of my bedroom as a teenager, so I gawked at that red V for years.

You got it! Congrats! Sweet looking axe. 500ts may be my favorite high gain pup also. I assume that there is a 496 in the neck? Those are a great match with a 500.

If I was still in the Valley, I'd be tempted to show up with liquor. Enjoy!

Yes 496r in the neck, may just be the only neck pup I've ever liked!
Loving the 500 very much, so saturated with goodness!

I knew it would be something with some type of points on it....lol

White strat knobs would make that V's journey to The Dark Side complete.

Tonight I finally got to spend some real quality time with it. Drinking beer in front of my AMP at rather stupid volumes.....

Ran it through the few Priest songs I know, some old Metallica, to ascertain the correct sound profile....
got into a few bluesy songs, some Dirty Looks, Boston, Offspring, then Pantera, Celtic Frost and Coven....
noticed it has a touchy volume pot needs to be tapped on once in a while, gonna have to get the soldering iron out I suppose.

Notes:
It plays ultra bright (lightweight and ebony) and sings with some subtle nuances of feedback and harmonics that I have only ever enjoyed with one other guitar before. It doesn't favor my wah nor delay pedal as much as my other axes do, perhaps its a pickup thing... these pups don't feedback quite as much as my duncans do in general. Not quiet like EMG's, but just a touch quieter than most of my other axes.

The board plays fast and effortlessly. ( I like it as much as my Jackson necks, its very comfortable, don't have to work at all to play it.) Similar to my old epi explorer in that manner.

I notice a touch less bass and growl in the overall sound, had to tweak my EQ's a bit to improve lower and mid freq's. I may switch to 10's on it soon, could be the pups???

I am fussing with the scale as I have been playing my BC Rich a lot lately and grown somewhat fond of the longer scale. I'll get back to comfortable the shorter scale soon.

It balances very well on the strap, no neck diving, no jumping around on my shoulder, very comfortable.

I don't know the specs on the frets, but they are just shy of the jumbo's I find on every other guitar in the world and I love it, only my explorer has smaller frets.

Action is already low but not stupid low. solos well and chords well.

My only nitpicky gripe is that I don't like the gear ratio in the tuning pegs, not sure what they are, but they aren't what I am used to.... seem too touchy and takes a bit longer to fine tune it.

Overall assessment (two words) Very comfortable.
I'd give it an easy 9 out of 10. Plays clean well, gets dirty in a hurry, sound is epic, and ease of play is among the best guitars I've ever put my grubby paws upon. ( not just saying that because its mine)

I may not pick up my other guitars for a while now... I really like this little sucker!!
