Guild s-100 drawing/template?

Re: Guild s-100 drawing/template?

Got the stain on the sg, and man it looks awesome!. The machete copy on the other hand did not turn out very well, and had to sand it all away and start over. The problem is the water based stain is a thicker consistency and it loaded up really fast. Planning to thin it out and try again. Also part of the neck heel on the body sustained some damage. and like a fool I threw out the leftover basswood scrap to make a patch with.. I used some of the Spanish cedar and 1/4" dowels to make the repair. I'm thinking now the back side will be done a solid color, and stain the top.

I may try to do a burst with some blue aerosol soon.

Meanwhile, I decided to cut down a brass receptacle box and build two quadmatic style bridges on the mill. Went far as making the individual saddles with one. Brass pipe nipples for stud bushings, Allen 5/16 set screws for bridge studs.

I haven't really decided. I'm not sure how the fabricated saddles is going to work out although I did stagger things the best I can. It may look a little akward in the end. But I'm more about functionality. With brass hardware being costly, I figured some hours of spare shop time is worthwhile.

Re: Guild s-100 drawing/template?

Might be a stupid question, but why have you decided to have the saddles be not centered on the screws? I can see how the string spacing should be the same as the bass side is skewed to the left and the treble side to the right, but it just caught my eye how close the middle two screws are to each other...

The strings are arranged to come through the bottom underneath the saddle adjustment screws. Which are arranged for clearance to the strings.

Re: Guild s-100 drawing/template?

Got the machete copy assembled and set up. The intonation was almost perfect upon installing the bridge and only needed a small amount of adjustment (never managed that before, lol). One caveat is I thought I had strap buttons on hand. Can't seem to find them..

The sg on the other hand is not turning out so hot. i redid the clear coat a second time and It seemed to form these bubbles after laying it out and walking away for a little while. maybe I did not let the stain cure long enough.. as frustrating that is, it's a do-over.

But i'm very happy with how the bridge turned out. I was glad to put that much time into fabbing it.

Sg copy finished. The finish did not come out the way I wanted. But I'm really happy with the sound. Plenty of resonation with this one.

Re: Guild s-100 drawing/template?

Remember that neck heel extension experimental?

Painted it up with our CAT yellow paint, plus the 2k clear using a fender supersonic body I made a while back using an actual template and adding more material to the lower lefthand side..

I'm thinking now the sg needs a pickguard. May zip one out with some black pvc sheet at the house..

Now that ties everything together. Used some acrylic sheet painting the backside then lining with metal tape. Super pleased with it:cool:
