Guitar and hair length...

So my hair's been getting pretty long again and my guitar riffing has been quite inspired of late (IIDMSSM) but...now that I'm in my middle youth, I really hate to bother with the hassles of long hair and the heat -I'm down here in Elvisville. But I'm kinda afraid there may be a connection... sorta like the Samson thing. You know.. you love it as long as the wind is blowing in the right direction or all you gotta do is peek through your locks at your blazing fingers occassionally... other than that, it can be a drag, including the familiar, "..oww, you're laying on my hair!" buzzkill... I know Satch doesn't have a problem, but I bet Yngwie thinks twice...! Someone should do a graph showing hair length vs wailage...... (I'm actually more of a Metheny meets Hedges meets Hendrix meets Coryell kinda guy...hmmm...I'm trying to picture their hair...) Does chopping effect your chops...? SD

Re: Guitar and hair length...

I've often found that hair doesn't effect wailage! But having a "HOT CHICK" in the audience sure does! :chairfall

CUTTING YOUR HAIR WILL AFFECT THE WAY YOU PLAY GUITAR!

if you "think" it will......

Re: Guitar and hair length...

The hair length improves your playing.I mean live playing.Since you have to move your head less to make a headbang with longer hair ,you can concantrate you more on your playing!!!Think of Phil Anselmo on 90's.he had no hair and he really had to almost break his neck to make a good looking headbang!!!:)

Re: Guitar and hair length...

I usually just let my girlfriend determine my hair length... but I'm presently single. I do think that, although you see hair of every length associated with most any type of music, from classical to grunge, I believe the mullet does enhance the ability to play Molly Hatchet covers...

I just trimmed my pubic hair and to tell you the truth, I don't think it made any difference in my ability to play the guitar.

Two words.

Herman. Li.

Mr. DragonForce is draggin' way too much hair.. to each his own, but that's a lot of maintenance... and just keepin' it out of small appliance let alone the toilet or the urinal... It's really sexy on a woman 'til you're in bed with her and all she wants is for you to get off it... OK...enuf off topic. I'm glad to see Larry Carlton cut his locks... that aging mullet look -bald in the front and long in the back- was getting painful to look at. He's much hipper on the cover of his latest CD, Firewire... Just checked out some of the tunes on it at Borders tonight...

Ummmm... Scofield, George Benson, Satriani, Paul Gilbert for a while... Tom Morello if you're into weird effects instead of technique... Buddy Guy shaved his head for a while, BB King, Robert Cray, Robert Johnoson....

Do you consider Slash to be better then Jimi Hendrix because Slash has longer hair?

I don't think the hair theory works.

I miss my long hair!

FRETOLOGY!!! when did you show up? Good to see ya buddy.

Kamanda I just noticed this I thought you knew I was here.....

Anyway I let the Marine Corps decide my hair length years ago.....turns out it actually helped my playing to get rid of it.....that's 10 more minutes of play time everyday as opposed to hair washing/combing keeping it out of the toaster and pisser.

Actually with the guitar on your lap practicing it might be too tickly and itchy to play properly.. See.. Losing hair makes you worse at guitar.
