Guitar assembly problems...

My guitar fits together well but there's a problem. If I use the 1 3/4" neck screws that came with the neck plate the tips would wind up poking through the fretboard as the neck pocket is the right depth but I have a shallow heel. Does anyone know of any manufacturers that make 1.25" neck screws and are they easily attainable? Your help is greatly appreciated. I think I'm going to slap a dollar sign on this guitar and call her M.P. short for Money Pit.

Can you deal with a thicker plate on the back? Or an insert between the plate and body?

Hit the hardware store and get some sheet metal screws.

Obviously get shorter ones. ;)

Re: Guitar assembly problems...

If they are close one could cut them down

Re: Guitar assembly problems...

I have cut them down many time with no problems. You can use them at full length to get the threads cut into the wood with out screwing them in all the way. Then cut them to the proper length and reinstall.

Guys (gals (?) ) thanks for all your help. You guys are an invaluable resource for a noob who probably couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag at this point. I have a trip scheduled to go to Lowe's today so I simply added the screws to my shopping list. I am honored and humbled by your willingness to help. Again, many thanks...

Re: Guitar assembly problems...

Oval head wood screws (sheet metal screws are usually "pan head" screws and don't come in such long lengths, those won't work).
