Guitar buzzing after replacing bridge pickup

Good day,

I have replaced my humbucker brdige pickup with a different one (humbucker as well) and now I have these buzzing when I do not touch any metal part on my guitar (string or pots). I wired the pup exactly as the previous one and did not touch anything else.

I checked with a multimeter and all seems to be grounded well (including the bridge ground cable) and nothing seems to be shortened. Once I touch a metal part on the guitar the buzz stops completely.

Any suggestions ?

look for ground loops and such, you might want to shield your control cavity too, often new pickups reveal issues you were'nt aware of.

this is a great guide on shielding which taught me a lot many years ago,but i skip the cap for the bridge ground part since that's only for protecting against electrical shock.

Thanks for your reply , I'll look into it.

Strange thing is that the guitar came originally with 3 single coils pickups which I replaced with an entire new circuit containing 3 humbuckers. This worked great and no noise was produced. Than I replaced the bridge pickup with another humbucker and than it all started. I notice that the new pickup does not have a brassplate underneath (the replaced pickup had one). Does it matter ?

Anyway I'll clean anything up and start fresh, hopefully this will help too :)

Re: Guitar buzzing after replacing bridge pickup

Ok, I have looked into this very very useful link. I started with the simple stuff and found out that I have a ground loop (section 17 in the link). I removed it and things got much better. I still have this buzz but its waaay less noticeable. I have noticed that when I tune down one of the knobs (towards zero volume/tone) the buzz is a bit more strong but it will do for now as it is playable nonetheless. Previously it was unbearable :)

Thank a lot for the help !
