Re: Guitar case problem

I'd say spend the extra for a G&G custom-fit case.

If you can scrounge some styro-type foam blocks or foam rubber (old couch cushions, etc) panels and send them to the luthier, or pay him for the material, he can build a cardboard shipping box around that (might have to take the whole thing to a local place that can make custom shipping boxes).

Once it arrives, send the box with the foam stapled or lightly glued to the box' inner walls to G&G and have them build a case around the box' outer dimensions. Pay particular attention to the long tip. You want a minimum of 2" at the same angle as the top wing, not letting it snuggle in the corner as with a typical Rhoads case.

Get at least 1/2" of padding in the back and lid.

The G&G case that came with my Jackson Custom Shop WarAngel weighs more than the guitar itself, is taller than an Anvil flight case for basses/keyboards, and wider than a Washburn Dime case. It cost $185 to ship the guitar in the case UPS Ground from East TX to West TN, and I'm less than 100 miles from 3 major shipping hubs (UPS, F'ed Ex, and DHL). I could've driven there in 8 hours.
Typically that trip for a "normal" guitar in a hard case would be $30-$40. Even a standard Jackson Warrior in the case fully insured for $2000 was only $130 from me to San Fran. I got guitars from Japan shipped for $120 inside a week in a hard case. I shipped a Roswell import in the case to Australia for $175, and that case was almost 4 feet long. My WarAngel case weighs more than those did with the guitars in them.

G&G for the win.

Re: Guitar case problem

Shoulda thought about the case potential before ordering the guitar. Doesn't do much good to buy a guitar that you can't get shipped to you, or that you can't take anywhere...rehearsals, gigs, etc.

Just have the builder ship it to you in a BIG box, pay the exorbitant shipping fees, and hang it on your wall so you can look at it everyday to remind you that big pointy guitars are fun to see but are a mistake to own.

Moo-moo caa caa. Large pointy guitars just take more thought than traditional molar-shaped ones. However, you are correct about the consideration for the case.

Re: Guitar case problem

We finally found a case the thing is massive has a lifetime warranty he got it for $190 off gumtree and they usually go for $600 so good.. It's one of these... And for future reference of people wanting super sturdy, odd shaped or large cases here is a site with them http://www.cases.com.au/ddx/Scripts/musicselect.asp

Dude, Putin just called, they need their aircraft carrier back, and he mumbled something something about never lending anythign to one of us bljat Americans ever again. :D

Seriously, I could get my rhoads case inside another case inside that case.... On the other hand, I can´t throw my rhoads case off an airplane without a parachute and expect the guitar to survive... you can :D

It would´t surprise me much if you could get a fullsize Marshall head in there to be honest... that case looks pretty deep, and there´s a huge amount of space on either side of the neck.... ;)

Definitely room for lots of equipment and accessory "boxes"... For ex., put your pedalboard, cables and such in the case and save trips during load in, or stick a 100 watt combo in you other hand and be a self contained jamming rig ;)
