Guitar Center Cables...

I called guitar center looking for some prices on 6' Monster Cable or Planet Waves cables but they didn't have either in that size. They said they had a custom cable though, sounded similar to George L's cables, but they said they weren't the same.

Does anyone have any experience with these cables, if so how are they?

Re: Guitar Center Cables...

Theya are kind of like "make your own" cables. They do not compare to Monster (nothing does). They always looked cheapo an thin to me. The ProCos always do me good.

Re: Guitar Center Cables...

everyone raves about monster so much i have 2 10ft i use all the time (one from guitar to boss floor tuner the other from tuner to amp) and they are a mess now if i touch them or step on it or kick it or anything while plugged in i get crackling and popping noises...i'm going to get new ones with the warantee but for that price i should never need to use the warantee...i'm not too happy with the quality.

You were definately lied to. :smack: Music store brand cables in no way compares to Monster Cables or Planetwaves Cables. I've bought music store brand cables and the lifespan of them is very pathetic. All you have to do is step on them about ten times and the wires inside the cable begin to separate and get smashed together which causes them to malfuncion and make weird noises and they eventually just stop working. I bought a Monster Cable about 3 years ago and its been stepped on countless times and it still sounds as good as the day I bought it. I have never looked back since. :)

VOODOO AMPS has the cables you need. The George Ls are good for rack stuff but try to get as many Voodoo cords as possible in your signal chain. The only cable that rivals it is a studio Monster cable for $135 for a 20 ft cable. The Voodoo is a fraction of that and I think sounds alot better.

Re: Guitar Center Cables...

Man i used to work at GC and if those "custom cable" is what I think it is then it's total sh!t. It'll work better for a tourniquet than a cable!

Monsters sound great but on most of the ones I've had WOW that warranty gets a workout. Good thing it's lifetime and unconditional. I prefer Planet Waves now because of better durability and equal sound quality.

Let me tell you a little story. I worked for GC for a year, and in that time PW outsold Monster almost 2:1. We'd get about 4-5 Monster Cables back per week that needed to be exchanged... i only saw ONE Planet Waves cable come back for an exchange in that entire YEAR. (PW cables have a lifetime warranty on them too!)

Think about it. ;)

Re: Guitar Center Cables...

Can I get a 10-15 foot planet waves cable (straight-angle) for 20-25 USD?

Re: Guitar Center Cables...

I really like Planet Waves cables, but along with their durability is the fact that you can't repair them since they're sealed. I still think they're about the best out there.

I use a couple Monster cables and my pedalboard is all George L's.
I was a smart boyscout and kept the Monster packaging and reciept.
The second one of them goes bad, I'm getting it replaced for free. No problems so far, tho.

Re: Guitar Center Cables...

I really liek planet waves personally, i have a 20 feet planet waves cable and it improved my sound greatly.

Re: Guitar Center Cables...

I'm gonna have to break out my 20 foot planet waves cable and give it another try. I didn't like the grooves/hump on the connector. You really have to shove it into the jack and pull hard to get it out. I think it might wear out the jack?

But you dont HAVE to repair them because the PW cables also have a Lifetime Warranty like the Monsters do!

And for the record, you don't need the original packaging to be able to use the warranty, either. Once the store gets the bad cable back they send it back to PAW or Monster or whatever.

That is one of the better features of PW cables..... Those compressions springs ensure excellent contact even when moving around. I have been using them some time now and...
1) I STILL have not had to bring the cable back!
2) The springs have caused no premature wear to any of my input jacks!

Thanks, I'll pull that Planet Waves cable out of the closet and give it another try. Happy 500th!

And does it matter what end I put in the guitar and what end I put in the amp?

That confused me in the beginning too.
It doesn't really matter but for optimal sound: The shielded side goes into the amp and the non shielded side goes into the guitar.

I like the PW very much, they are my first and hopefully last quality cables.
I doubt that any cable will last a lifetime but these ones shurely seem indestructible.

Ok, so which side is shielded? The angled or the straight part? I was hoping I could plug the angled side into my amp so that it doesn't just stick straight up.

Re: Guitar Center Cables...

Edited my previous post :)

It is written on the cable itself which side is which, but it doesn't really matter that much.
