Guitar Center ROOLZ!

Re: Guitar Center ROOLZ!

Guitar Center lacks the customer service that you get from smaller shops. The only thing I buy from GC are a certain kind of strap that I've been unable to find anywhere else.

Re: Guitar Center ROOLZ!

I have so many CG stories I could write a book about it! One of my favorites:

Me: "Do you stock the Seymour Duncan Distortion Trembucker pickup?"

GC: "Uhhhh (looks in the display case) is that a single coil?"

Cheers,

CJ

Re: Guitar Center ROOLZ!

i've had way too many occurances at GC like that. You just gotta be real direct with 'em and sometimes tell 'em to go away.

I was at a GC lately. I noticed that they had a vintage Marshall, so while I usually just walk through and leave, I wanted to play this one. The long haired kid was pretty helpful in this case. He didn't make any idiotic presumptions either.

I coudn't really evaluate the amp with all the people on modeling amps and rectum friers going: "chugga>chugga>chugga> rip> belch>sqeeeel>chugga>chugga> chugga>...."

GC is what it is. It's a lot like walmarts. They don't usually have much selection beyond the usual stuff. For example, the pickups they have on hand are usually just JB's, Hot Rails, and Super Distortions. Don't ask em to order anything else either.

Not so, I ordered a set of Seth Lovers for half the list price including tax. That was a sweet deal.

Re: Guitar Center ROOLZ!

I was in a shop and asked if they had any LP Standards in...

The salesman i was talking to sys well we gotta a beater Paul...

He comes back and hands me a "The Paul II" or w/e that POS is called.

Nothing like an LP standard and I hate it when salesmen think they can trick me cuz im young and legally blind. Im not gonna pay $700 for an ugly ass POS Gibson that's crappier than an Epi standard. And it looked like it came out of a trash can, even I could see that, and feel all the scratches and chips on the body.

Long live mom and pop shops.

That's not the usual case, but I'm glad you got lucky! I wanted to order a set of pickups once, but they told me that special orders were full list. They told me I had to call back a certian guy that was out. I called the next day and the guy was an a$$, and I could tell didn't really want to go the trouble of putting in an order. I won't deal with them anymore.

Re: Guitar Center ROOLZ!

Like I said -- know what you want, get in, get it, get out. Don't ask for help, don't order anything because chances are they'll screw up the order anyway, and for God's sakes, don't get into a conversation with them about gear because you'll feel like you're in elementary school -- and YOU'RE the teacher.

Re: Guitar Center ROOLZ!

What I like about guitar center is that you can return just about any new product for 30 days. Try it out, if you like keep it, if you don't, bring it back. Haven't found a Mom & Pop shop that will do that. You'll have to take store credit usually.

Most of the time they're pretty friendly at Guitar Center and I've found some great used gear in there. If it's a less well known brand, used gear can be had at a really low price.

But even though Guitar Center can be a really good place to get used gear, just check it out good becuase they will put used stuff on the floor regardless of what condition it's in, like way worn frets or pot that don't work. Also, find one of the good sales guy to work with every time you go in there.

Re: Guitar Center ROOLZ!

haha, i just experienced my favorite GC story last week.
on a whim I picked up one of those danelectro fab flanges for $15. i went to the counter, and while he was ringing me up i started some small talk, i asked if they sell a lot of these. he says, "I dunno. What is it? What does it do?"

as long as I know what i'm looking for, I don't mind going in there though

on a side note, i don't like the fab flange, not even for $15

They're not allowed to sell below MAP, so they can't beat any other SD dealer that really wants your business. ;)

I think they mic Guitar Centers and send the feed straight to hell to provide a soundtrack. It is sheer musical anthrax IMO.

THis is correct, it´s a closed circuit Pay Per Soul channel that´s only available in the actual bowels... we found it´s cheaper and more effective than Celine Dion :firedevil :laugh2:

Re: Guitar Center ROOLZ!

the thing about guitar center is: no matter what you ask for, they are gonna try to sell you something used. I usually want new crap. I was just looking one day and told the guy that I may be in the market for a 30-50 watt solid state combo with an effects loop ... I wasn't particular, I just wanted to see what was available for my strict standards. he's like "we have this Crate combo that is exactly what you are looking for". it was an old, USED 80 watt combo. that was case one.

second case was: a while ago, when I was contemplating playing bass in my old band, i wanted a 2x10 combo with a 1x15 bottom. the salesman proceeds to walk me over to a used head and 4x10 halfstack and tells me "4x10's is gonna sound just like that 2x10 and 1x15." Bull-shnykie. I am familiar with audio in all formats and I know that 2 10s can't produce the low end like a 15 can.

Now I just walk in, say i don't need any help and proceed to do my business.

I did by that Fab Chorus and it sounds pretty good. Sounds better than that Ibanez CF-7 I had.
