Guitar Center's King of the Blues: Which Amp?

Re: Guitar Center's King of the Blues: Which Amp?

Marshalls sound great to me and they worked for Clapton for blues, but in general they're rock amps to me. If I'm going to be doing blues, I'm going Fender all the way... the Deluxe Reverb is the amp I'd choose. :fing2:

At the end of the day... the blues ain't in the amp. It's in you... or not.

I agree with Jeremey and KMC (Ken),

I'm not a big fan of these things, and a lot of things pass as "blues". If you're going to do it, pick the guitar and amp that you feel brings out "your sound". I agree with KMC, I like the idea of the DRRI or possible a combination of two amps.

they might as well call it-"guitar center's king of shred and hair metal chops introduced with a few cliche blues licks"

Re: Guitar Center's King of the Blues: Which Amp?

I've fooled around with the Marshall DSL 100, and I think they are pretty good sounding--for what they do. Loud for sure.

The new DRRI just don't sound like my old '65 did--and that's good and bad, I guess. They are louder, with more headroom--and just tighter sounding. If I really wanted nice break-up at sane volumes--my old one would be perfect--the new ones less so. The DRRI has a great clean tone, though.

I'm not a big fan of the solid-state amps, but I've heard the Flextone models are pretty good.

And, I got a lot of comments on the Palomino V32, and that surprised me. This is one amp I think I'm going to have to check out!

Okay, so the competition starts Tuesday, March 14th. It should be fun. I decided to enter, just for kicks.

I'm taking either a Les Paul, or a G&L Legacy Special; and I think I'm going to use the Marshall DSL half stack. (Stand back!!!! LOL!) Track 22.

So how about it? Are you going?

This sounds like fun....

I think...I'd be inclined to go Flextone...cos of the JTM45 sim which is very good on that amp..one of the few things (like the 800) that Line6 'nailed". Crank the gain, and then play with the vol knobs on the guit.

That said..the DSL on the "crunch" with the gain low, and a paula in the middle position will do a decent "since I've been loving you" type tone.
