Guitar Finishing question for Blueline, and other builders on the board

I'm thinking about buying a Carvin bolt kit and making the guitar custom to me. I don't know anything about what kind of paint to apply, how to apply it (spraying I assume is the best/only way to do it), and if and what kind of clear coat to use. Also, are necks finished after they are fretted and constructed, if so, how do you finish them and what do you use. Also, how do you finish a neck and paint the headstock to match the body color? Mask off the area?

some do's/don'ts, and tips appreciated, also if you guys do finishing yourselves, I already know what color I'm interested in, maybe I'll get a quote from you for finishing cost and what you can do for me.

thanks in advance,

- Dan

Like Curly said, Go to www.reranch.com and read the reranch 101. The
best tip I can give you at this point is take your time. if your in a hurry
you won't get pro results. there's a lot of procedure envoled,And step to
step a lot of sanding. Reranch has a fourm board where you can post ??
The guy's are real cool there, And helpful. :)

Re: Guitar Finishing question for Blueline, and other builders on the board

thanks guys, I get a great deal of satisfaction from building things on my own. Cars, computers, etc. I'm going to try it with guitars now too. I'll start with a Carvin bolt kit which is easy but will get me used to finishing, next I'll build a warmoth custom explorer possibly, and finally I might get into the workshop and lay down my own design, which will be painstakingly difficult but fun.
