Hi!
After years of playing the guitar, I think thats my favourites tones. They both made a wall of sound, and both had crying tone neck pickups.
I know that Kee used JB with 59'. John Sykes used Dirty Fingers bridge pup, but I don't know nothing about neck pickup.
Apparently it is PAF. Do you know anything about this?
I guesses 59' will be the closest. I care about this CRYING tone

Hello Carlos,

Sorry for the late reply. I am not 100% sure about John Sykes pickups either. I think he uses pickups slightly hotter than PAF, and from his cutting tone I would guess A5 magnets. I know there is a company that makes a set of Sykes signature pickups, although I can’t recall the name right now. A quick internet search would find them though.

I do think a ‘59 in the neck would be a fine place to start for that tone, especially in a Les Paul. For something a bit hotter, even a WLH set might be a good call. I’m not sure if something like the Full Shred would be moving in the right direction in the neck, even though it’s a hotter wind.

Hopefully someone who knows Sykes tone a bit better will come along, but I wanted to reply to your thread and get you back on the first page. Good luck.
