Guitar Humbucker " Legs " repair

Re: Guitar Humbucker " Legs " repair

I'm sure if you called SD you could send to them and have a new baseplate put on. If you want to go the DIY route you can buy baseplates from several websites. Its just 4 screws and soldering one ground wire. As far as fixing the legs themselves I don't think this much that can be done given how bad they are.

I have an original Seymour Duncan baseplate with long legs from the Custom Shop (without the imbossed Logo - thats only on the Standard pickups). Its the same as used on the Antiquities. It includes a full length cable.
PM me if interested.

for the one that the thread is worn, you can glue a small nut over the whole to thread the screw through.

This man has had to make some emergency repairs before!

What if you just removed the other leg as well, and then epoxy yourself a strip of metal to the back of the pup with new holes?

For a very cheap, semi-desperate fix, you can also try and drop a small amount of molten solder around the hole, to make it smaller. I found it helps to have the screw in whilst you do it.

Re: Guitar Humbucker " Legs " repair

Get you some 4 minute cure JB Weld epoxy; that'll do the trick.

What I've done in situations like that is get some small nuts the size of the height adjustment screws then solder or glued them to the plate to act as new threads. Ive been taught of this by a professional luthier who also taught me how do i play guitar..

You need to clean it and the nut really good to remove any oils, then use something like epoxy, not glue. Wouldn't hurt to rough up the mating surfaces with sandpaper or a file first either. That'll give the epoxy something to grab onto.

Don't surrect dead threads! Start a new one!
