Re: Guitar Mods w/SD PG's

How do you guys like the Pearly Gates in the bridge??

I've never tried one and I swear by the Pearly Gates humbucker.

Any input would be awesome. Don't worry about genre. I really want to know how they work for you and what you do.

I play classic rock and blues. For me, the best Duncan PAF's are Seth's, A2P's, and WLH's. They always sound great. Don't care for PG's at all; the neck is too warm and rounded for my tastes, and the bridge too bright and thin (I like full-bodied bridge tones). Seems like a mismatched pair.

Re: Guitar Mods w/SD PG's

Thank you Dave....after some trial and error i like the sound. Now its learning to get the sound that is comfortable and fitting to my playing. I believe that i can grow into these pups so to speak. Ive played acoustic for 30 some years and focus all my attention on electric now and am loving it. Its like learning to play all over again....love it. Thanks again. Will post sound bites with different settings on amp and guitar and with Behringer Vintage Blues Overdrive Pedal T0800.

i love my pearly gates set. i use the bridge more than i use the neck, its warm and cutting at the same time

Re: Guitar Mods w/SD PG's

Pearly Gates is that pickup for players who want a little 'more' out of a 59.

In the neck, it's got just enough less bass to not be boomy, and the upper mid spike really lets it cut. The A2 mag puts a sweet top end on it. Not like the A2P syrupy sweet top, but a thin layer of icing.

In the bridge it's got some attitude. A little gnarly and with bite - but not harsh at all - again, the spike and the A2 mag

I think the guys who don't like it are used to something milder. Don't get me wrong - it's still a PAF. I could Jazz, Blues, Rock, Pop whatever with it. But you'll want to use some volume / tone

I see you have 4 of those!
