Re: Guitar nut question

Feedback doesn't have anything to do with nuts.
It's about the strings, the pickups, and the speaker output all having a little random conversation.

Re: Guitar nut question

if the nut slots are cut too wide the string will buzz in the slot. perhaps that's what you're hearing.

Re: Guitar nut question

You would have to dig deeper to find what is actually causing the buzzing. Bad nuts do not cause feedback. If the nut slots are too low, the strings may be buzzing against the frets. If the nut is cut wrong, the string may not be taking off from the front edge of the nut and buzzing against the nut itself. If the strings do not have a correct break angle, the strings may be buzzing behind the nut. If the nut is a locking nut, or the nut is loose, the nut itself may be rattling.

Re: Guitar nut question

I've heard of stings feeding back behind the nut, and the solution is just to weave some foam in there. But a nut doesn't really cause feedback. If they are too low, they can rattle (or buzz).
