Guitar of the Week

Re: Guitar of the Week

I am guessing they are the same as the Bill Lawrence pickups on the Gibson S-1 LP.

Ouch!!

This whole "Guitar of the Week" think they're doing just seems, well, strange. I dunno. It seems they care more about collectors lately than the everyday gigging musicians.

Re: Guitar of the Week

Yeh, it's a cool concept, but given the market for rare Gibsons, few of these instruments will land in the hands of actual musicians. Shame, because that SG is extraordinary looking, and so far out of the box in terms of Gibson SGs that it might actually be a model that would sell well for a short while. There's got to be more market for this sort of thing than a racing-stripe painted SG standard with a dust-buster attachment screwed onto the face.

Yeah it's a shame that a lot of collectors will get their hands on these. They seem really useful, solid mahogany with single coils sounds great to me.

Re: Guitar of the Week

I don't know how much the guitar of the weeks are ending up with collectors, the Long & McQuade in Winnipeg has two of them, a silverbust SG, and that freaky ugly yellow red stripe Les Paul. The SG looked pretty cool, and it had a thicker neck then a normal SG Standard, otherwise it was the same as mine, and of course being at a large store, not set up properly. However the thing that surprised me was that it only cost a couple hundred more than a normal SG Standard, I thought Gibson would be running up the prices on these things.

Damn I am jealous. Long and McQuade just bought out Musicstop down here so maybe we will be getting better gear down here soon.

Those are cool lookin' pickups, I'm sure they sound awesome but I don't dig the rotary switch :/
