Guitar polish

I've been using the same inexpensive guitar polish for ages. I think it's made by Martin, but I've used it so long I haven't read the label in years.

Problem: Black Beauty, my ESP/LTD bass, holds fingerprints. Even when freshly polished. And cleaning them looks like is starting to put surface/finish scratches on the face.

What do you guys use/suggest?

Could it be the cloth you are using?

I use Dunlop Formula 65 polish with a clean Fender flannel polsih cloth. It works great with my poly finished Fenders & Epi's and works even better on my Nitro finished Hamer and Gibson.

the Forumula 65 works great for getting rid of grime.

I use Gerlitz Number One! Carnauba Guitar Wax to finish things off. It gives you a mirror like finish.

Is there really a difference in polishes? I would think they are all pretty much the same. Tto me it all comes down to how I want my guitar to smell. Dunlop smells good and lemony. Gibson's got a good smell too, kind of piney.

To me, it comes down to how well a polish gets along with nitro finishes. So far, Dunlop has been the best one I've tried so far.

I personally have never used liquid guitar polish. I always wash my hands before playing so theres really no need to polish it because my hands arent oily. I have a pretreated polishing cloth which is dry and I wipe my guitars down after playing to get rid of dust, etc. If you wash your hands before handling your guitar, to me, theres really no need for polish. Just my opinion though.

I posted a question at the LPF yesterday about restoring shine to sweat-dulled nitro finish. This Virtuoso cleaner and polish has been recommended to me. Think I'm gonna get some! Apparently it's available at GC.

Window cleaner with a window cleaning cloth! Tho my axes dont have nitro finish, have that plastic sorta coating that you get on solid finishes.

I posted a question at the LPF yesterday about restoring shine to sweat-dulled nitro finish. This Virtuoso cleaner and polish has been recommended to me. Think I'm gonna get some! Apparently it's available at GC.

I need to try that stuff. Neither Martin or Dunlop polishes have been able to come even close to restoring shine to this one spot on my Paul.

I DO wash my hands.

I recently discovered the necks feels much better if you wash hands right before. Makes sense because there is oil and other crap on your hands all the time.

I use Dunlop 65 and a Vileda Microfibre cloth on Poly, Martin polish (the same creamy white stuff out of a spritz-bottle that you use) on nitro. Raw wood (bodies and back of neck, fretboards get oiled as well) I only polish with 0000 steel wool.
