Darkness on the edge of Tone
I will be recording guitar tracks this weekend for the next As Follows release. This will be the 3rd release for this project, and so far each time round I have tried a different recording technique.
First album was reamped guitar tracks using various amplifier and speaker combinations, ribbon mic (Cascade Fat Head II), and mixed in analogue.
Second album was reamped guitar tracks using various amplifiers, a single speaker choice (Eminence Swamp Thang), dynamic mic (Sennheiser e609), and mixed in the box.
For this album, my plan is to track the guitars live (no reamping), various amplifiers, Weber Alnico speaker, and a large diaphragm condenser mic (sE Electronics Magneto).
First stage for me is preproduction/mapping, which I have done.

Second stage will be setting up the gear following this map and cut a test recording to see what needs to be changed, if anything. That will be tonight.
I am sure I'm not alone is mapping things out beforehand, as it's a great way to use what would otherwise be dead time for me (like when I am commuting, or drinking my morning coffee).
Anyone else do this? Would love to see your methods!
