Guitar project - pickup choice

I'm assembling a guitar mostly from Warmoth parts, and it's essentially an LP double-cutaway copy. I've got a mahogany body/neck, Gibson scale length, two pickups. Here's where the issue comes in: I had originally anticipated dropping in a pair of humbuckers, so that's what the body is routed for, but lately I've been considering p-90's. My 'bucker choice was going to be a set of Pearly Gates, but now I'm leaning towards a set of Phat Cats. Any words of advice? Pearlies or Phatties?

I forgot to mention, I'm going for a real basic rock n' roll sound; good for bluesy stuff, classic rock, hard rock, and punk.

Dude, get the higher output P-90's!! You'll get a solid heavy blues tone! Very good for punk, classic rock and with enough saturation you could even do metal!!

Think Mike Ness from Social Distortion... he uses some hot P-90's in his '57 Goldtop. His tone is very desirable for it's serious ability to cut through.

I think an LP with P-90's is a great idea. That fat mahogany body would keep them warm & rich, and you'd still get that great open sound. Gibson & Epiphone should offer a better selection of P-90 Lp's (besides that ugly gold top). Bet they'd sell.

Thanks a lot...I'm actually a huge Mike Ness fan; he's a big part of the reason I started to look at p-90's!
