Looking for a good guitar that can live for a good amount of time and be used for drop d and standard. What ill be using it for is stuff like Buckcherry all the way to the shredding metal of Shadows Fall and avenged sevenfold. Thanks in advanced. My budget is max 400 bucks.

Re: Guitar Recommendation

I'd definitely be looking at Schecters.

The used market should have several things to offer. Depending on the exact setup you want, just about every company made something that would fit the bill and should come in well under $400 - give you some money left over for pups and such.

Re: Guitar Recommendation

used Schecter Blackjack with the JB/59 combo. Drop an A2 or A8 mag in the JB and you're ready to rock and #$#@ roll :headbang:

Re: Guitar Recommendation

Were can I get one? I want a shecter so bad. Synyster Gates inspired me to look at shecters. His sig is too much for me as all of them now are but I need a guitar with out a double locking trem too. So yea tried the signature of both zacky and synyster plus the hellraiser amazing guitars. If anyone has a shecter for sale let me know.

Re: Guitar Recommendation

I see several Schechter, Ibanez guitars that are ending today, that are well within that price range on ebay.

There's even a new BC Rich Kerry King (looks awful to my eyes) that would fit the bill in that range.

Several decent stop-tails too, but you mentioned non-locking tremolo's. Just do the search on ebay and you'll see some nice guitars that'll do that fine. Rip the pickups out, sell them and do your thing, and you'll be golden.

Re: Guitar Recommendation

schecter, either c-1 plus or tempest. the c-1 has a 25 1/2 scale(iirc) and 24 frets, and the tempest is more traditional with a 24 3/4 scale with 22 frets. both are 2vol/master tone, 3-way switch, single coil tap(on tone) and have maple/mahogany/set neck construction. they've got the duncan-designed hb-102 set, which is supposedly based on the jb/jazz set. clarity isn't up to par, but with a couple magnet swaps and new caps you'd be in business. those, plus an a2 or a8 in the bridge along with an orange drop would be a great shredder/metal guitar. i'd say since this guitar is more for standard tuning the tempest(with it's shorter scale) would be nicer, but i naturally like the shorter scale myself. used they'd both be about $400.

edit: if you want to go non-locking, you could always get a bigsby for one. i know they don't look 'metal' but it'd work. also since schecters come with graphite nuts and tone-pros bridges tuning problems shouldn't be as apparent as they are with other bigsby equipped guitars.

Re: Guitar Recommendation

forgot about that one! i've tried it before, good allaround metal/rock/punk guitar. i think you'll be pretty happy with that one:D

Re: Guitar Recommendation

I think I may buy that baby tonight. I like schecters and someone is buying my enduro bike today so Ill have enough to get it. Totally excited about this. Needed something and best part is those are passive pickups in her. Should make playing smoother on my line 6 when practicing or just jamming. For stage I have been using the marshall jcm 800 so this guitar should sound sweet on it too.

Re: Guitar Recommendation

Sweet ill check it out for sure. I love that it has emgs.

EMG passives (the H4s) are passable but don't expect to be blown away.

when I was working at GC, the Schecter quality control was decent but make sure you play the guitar both unplugged and through a good tube amp. make them take one out of the warehouse if the one on the floor isn't all that resonant. let them know you have cash and are ready to buy and you'll get treated well :)

Re: Guitar Recommendation

Isn't guitar center also offering that 10% coupon still? I don't have the latest flier on hand, but I thought that back cover had a coupon, and maybe even online. Might help save a few bucks.

for the month of February, yes - 10%

that's an easy $40-$50 right there

Re: Guitar Recommendation

There's a Sam Ash right around the corner where we're from. I'd try out the Schecter's there. They look great for teh money.
