Guitar Recommendations

Hey everyone! Merry Christmas! I hope you're all doing well.

I'd like some SSS Strat type guitar recommendations. Any company, hum-cancelling pickups that work well with gain. New, used.. Whatever.

Up to around $2,000.

Thanks!

Re: Guitar Recommendations

That's certainly a price range.

At that point I'd probably be looking at an American Special Strat (I like big headstocks) and drop some Duncan Stacks in there.

Or, heck, you could spec out a Warmoth build for that much.

Re: Guitar Recommendations

Thanks for the replies!

I'm looking for a more straty strat. No Hot Rails although Dave's guitar is a beauty.

I looked at the Jeff Beck and I have played the Yngwie guitar recently and it was cool but someone set it up with 10s which IMO does not work on that guitar. I played one set up with 8s way back when and it was pretty sick. It's an option.

I'm intrigued by Warmoth. I have a Warmoth neck on my RG and it kicks ass. I'll look into that as well. I also played the Fender Strat that has the rosewood neck, that was nice too.

What do you guys have?

Re: Guitar Recommendations

+1 (except for the Fender N3 Noiseless pickups)

Looks normal but plays like something altogether speedier.

Re: Guitar Recommendations

I would say Warmoth or Musikraft...awesome products for the price! I would recommend a Roasted Maple neck, that would save you money on the finish (roasted maple does not require a finish.)

You can get quite a bit of options with either company (I prefer Warmoth except that Musikraft offers rolled fretboard edges.)

Best of luck!

Re: Guitar Recommendations

Used Warmoth?

Heck, you could put together a new Warmoth Strat build for less than 2 grand, depending on what you wanted. My "Swiss army Strat" still in the planning/budgeting stages is penciling out at about $1500, and it's fairly nicely appointed (quilt over ash with black dye, black chrome hardware, q-sawn maple neck). I'm sure someone could show me the cart for a Strat build that comes to more than 2 large, but it would be way beyond my tastes.

Re: Guitar Recommendations

If you want a stratty strat, why not just get a Fender American Strat, either the Special with texas specials or the Standard with Fat 50's? You can't get much strattier than that.

Re: Guitar Recommendations

All of my Fender style guitars are Warmoth or Edenhaus (Musikraft) partscasters. All of my partscasters.......tele or strat have a P90 either in the neck or the middle. I mix up my pickups types to create a guitar with a variety of tones. I have 2 strats that have a P90 in the neck, strat pickup in the middle and a tele pickup in the bridge. I love this combination and I prefer to build my own guitars the way I want them.

Re: Guitar Recommendations

Squire and a set of YJM's or DiMarzio HS2's. Have it set up supremely.
< $500

I'll take a meager $500 fee for the advice, and you'll pocket $1k in savings.

Don't thank me - just send the check….
