Guitar Recommendations

Re: Guitar Recommendations

Two grand equals four nice Squires

But Warmoth will hook ya up with the neck shape and frets of your own choosing

Personally, I'd rather have one nice $2,000 guitar made to my specs than four Squires...no comparison on quality as well as with Warmoth you get the specs you prefer. Not to mention, $500 for a Squire is quite high–you can get a really nice upgrade to MIM Fenders at that price range–new.

Can you get something like this from Squire? :D

Re: Guitar Recommendations

I'd have to agree with trey. The Warmoth build can be done for less than $2000, pretty easily, depending on the level of finishing options you elect. I currently have one on order as a candy red HSH body with a 24.75 scale maple neck, that I'll set up with two humbuckers. It'll be my third from them for myself and seventh or eighth total. It'll end up costing me about $1,200 plus shipping for everything.

Here are my other two

Fender MIM Standards are now 599, plain standards.

I'd say if you already have a real good tube amp, go with a real nice Fender Deluxe strat. Very beautiful items with a world full of direct replacement upgrade parts; pickguards, control knobs, wiring kits, pickups, tuners, trem units, everything.

The off brands do not accept nearly the amount of direct replacement upgrade parts.

Don't forget the Eric Clapton modified strat either, boost, tone mod, etc.

There is nothing wrong with a super nice Fender that a few hundred in personalized upgrades by an expert tech can't cure.

Re: Guitar Recommendations

Personally, I think Warmoth is a mistake in this instance, for a number of reasons.

I'm a big believer in G&L, and I think the USA models offer tremendous value. There's a lot of options and colors that should be enough to satisfy most people. G&L IS a custom shop.

I don't understand recommending a Squire to someone who's ready to move up to a totally professional quality instrument. When it's time to invest in yourself and your talent, why would you want to take a step BACK?

If G&L doesn't do it for you, take a look at Suhr, Grosh et.al. There are a lot of other small builders that build beautiful instruments. You don't need to buy a kit guitar, and you certainly don't need to buy junk.

Re: Guitar Recommendations

If I were in the market for something new and Fender-y, I'd be looking at G&L as well. Their necks are great.

Re: Guitar Recommendations

G&L is most definitely an option. I definitely don't want junk and would rather not have to upgrade anything.

Re: Guitar Recommendations

I think it depends...if you are going to just change a bunch of stuff on a guitar, might as well build one and get what you want, rather than pay for parts of a guitar you will just discard. I went the Warmoth route, and it is amazing, but it has a lot to do with picking the right components. In the end, you get exactly what you want. If you just want a great Strat, there are other options for that.

What are your reasons against Warmoth? (including Musikraft too) It is a Custom Shop that offers Made In America guitar parts at a very high quality.

Never played a brand new G&L, only used ones...didn't see or feel anything to set them apart from Fender USA or Warmoth. But they do offer fine guitars.

Agree 100% here...don't understand that recommendation at all.

Suhr definitely makes a great product...hard to find though. lol Grosh is one I've never played. Another great one but hard to find is a Wayne (current line of Wayne Charvel and his son Michael made out in California.)

Have you ever played a Warmoth or built one? Musikraft? They are not kit guitars–they are made in a Custom Shop offering high American made quality. I've had several and they were all custom ordered to my specs–specs not offered by Fender or G&L (Strat with Gibson scale made of Mahogany neck and body with Flamed Redwood top and a black Ebony board with Stainless Steel frets...haven't seen one of those offered.)

If the OP wants a guitar with certain specs not offered by Fender or G&L then I don't see how Warmoth is a mistake. It would be great for him to find something used in awesome condition that but if he doesn't I just don't understand how Warmoth is a mistake here.

Re: Guitar Recommendations

To me, Warmoth sounds the best. I have a custom Warmoth neck on my 91 RG and it's my favorite neck of all my guitars.

Still looking and thinking but so far, Warmoth is at the top.

Re: Guitar Recommendations

How about a music man silhouette special SSS??? Great quality and they have the silent circuit as well.

Re: Guitar Recommendations

Here's another vote for Warmoth. I've had five of them built for me that I designed (I'm not a luthier, so I pay a professional tech for assembly, setup, fret dressing, etc.). I have not had anything but excellent results. I love my Warmoth 'casters. Here are a couple of them: to show you another option for a Strat type guitar with a twist. These are both the 7/8 "S" bodies with their proprietary 24 fret, 24.75" scale Warhead necks. Where else can you get a Gibson scale Strat that's even more ergonomically friendly than a regular Strat? And get to choose all of your appointments and specs to boot? Nowhere I know of. The SSS guitar below has Bartolini Strat pickups, a chambered ash body and rosewood on maple neck. The white superstrat type has Seymour Duncan pickups including a Screamin' Demon at the bridge, alder body and ebony on maple neck. They're both players. Happy hunting!
