It sounds really great for a guitar on a recording. The sound that comes out of your speakers/headphones is just inherently different from that which comes out of an amp/guitar speaker. But if you have the problem where when you mic your amp it sounds amaturish on the recording, well, Guitar rig kicks some ass.
It's also a lot of fun to play with. One feature they don't talk about is that it gives you a good idea of what a lot of equipment sounds like if you can't try it out in person. It's also a good way to play with effect orders and settings and stuff.
But live, yeah. I've seen big name acts use it but if you're moving your own gear it's not worth it. It is by far the best computer amp simulator though...all the little knobs and variacs and artwork and AC hum and wahs that control random knobs and cabinet types and mic types and stuff. Really fun.
