Guitar rig for modern country?

Re: Guitar rig for modern country?

At the end of the day, it's all gonna come down to the hat.

Oh, and the boots.

But mostly the hat.

Re: Guitar rig for modern country?

We need to have a talk about exactly what "modern" country is, because it isn't Skynyrd with a Mando.

This sounds like an original band to me. I would say bring whatever sound they want to make them sound good. Doesn't sound like there is a prescribed tone.

And apparently a lot of you only know the tone for imaginary generic country from 20 years ago!

If you do not think a country player used every box you do short of uber-gain pedals, think again.

Alot of them are still pedal geeks. Just watch a rig rundown on YouTube of Brad Paisley's rig.

Re: Guitar rig for modern country?

There are 2 kinds of stuff that come to mind when someone says "modern country" the first is the sound that John Jorgenson started several decades now...a Telecaster (or sometimes a Strat) into a Vox AC-30 or some kind of Vox inspired (style) amp. Guys like Brad Paisley have taken that tone and sort of made it the standard in some modern country sort of picking up where the earlier classic Fender amp/Fender guitar rig left off.

The other "modern country" sound is just a cheesy modern rock tone shoved into a country tune and the kicker about that is that all that kind of modern country is just bad rock with a fiddle.

Take a Les Paul, a high gain channel switcher and a pedal board full of boosters, OD and compressors...you'll be just fine.

Re: Guitar rig for modern country?

Serious idea:

Come with maybe 5 really cool tones to show your sonic-sculpting ability. One or two meat and potato, slightly-subdued basic rock masquerading as pop-country, and then a few others just to showcase the possibilities.
