Re: Guitar sound in Hendrix pickup demo vid
Can you post the video? (I saw one on the Duncan YouTube channel, just want to make sure it's the same one)
The formula for Hendrix is quite simple actually. Vintage style wah into Fuzz Face into a loud Marshall and sometimes a Fender. Sprinkle in a Univibe for Machine Gun and Star Spangled Banner and Octavia for Purple Haze. The real meat of the sound is a Marshall that is compressing and touch responsive paired with a fuzz face (he used germanium and silicon). Keep the Fuzz dimed, roll the volume of your guitar back to 6/7 for the "cleaner" parts then crank it back to 10 for the searing leads.
All that will get you about 25% of the way there. Jimi played in a very unique manner. The thumb-over was key to his chord shapes, it allows all the hammer one and pull offs the ornament his rhythm playing. His lead is not standard minor pentatonic rock stuff either.
So, your Strat into a Fuzz Face into a loud Marshall style amp should give you a great foundation to start.
In the video I saw on the Duncan channel some of the cleans sounded a little different than the typical Hendrix tone. I listened on my phone, but I swear I could hear more effects like a delay and chorus.
