Guitar String pack discovery....

I consolodated packs of guitar strings from various guitar cases, guitar center bags and random containers. Looks like I could have a shootout without buying a new pack of strings!

2 Nickels, 3 Nickel-Steels, 1 coated and 1 "treated".

Good thing I checked before going to buy any more packs of strings... :p

Thats cool Darkside! I was thinking about putting together assorted string packs for sale on ebay.

Of course, now we will need reviews in comparison.

Re: Guitar String pack discovery....

The tension on Nanoweb Elixir's SUCK, imo. Not balanced AT ALL.

I hadn't noticed that, but I'm using Custom Lights right now. Which strings are off, and in what direction?

(The 7 String set is left over from an experiment to build a balanced tension set to approximate 10's in Eb. I ended up using the 7th string from a set of 9's most of the remainder of a set of 11's with possibly a different b.)

Re: Guitar String pack discovery....

With my apparently acidic skin, coated strings lose their coating for me after about 2 weeks. I get white flakes all over the case and my clothes, which I am sure does wonders for the sustain and vibrations of the string. I am also in a very humid area, so string just simply don't last long here.

I used the 10-46 set - which is comparable to the Custom Light set - and the wound strings feel way off. The feel of the A string compared to the low E and D strings are world's apart. And I personally thought the tension of the E and D strings was very high. Power chords didn't feel right but, if you like playing octaves on the low E and D strings I guess it'd be just fine considering that both strings feel almost identical in tension. YMMV

Here's the tension scale for that set:

.010 / 16 .013 / 15 .017 / 17 .026 / 18 .036 / 20 .046 / 17

Old Dad packaging. Youve had those for awhile :)
Yes, the Nickels were in a case of a guitar I bought a little over a year ago. The nickel steels... Who knows. ;)

I think my sweat/environment is a perfect match for Elixirs, they last forever. I used to use them on my guitars I played infrequently and changed nickel steels fairly regularly on my main players. Now that I have a baby I just have had elixirs on my main guitar to keep it semi-fresh since time is not on my side. ;)
