guitar through a bass amp???

Can one play a guitar through a bass amp? What about bass through a guitar amp? Will either of them sound good? Im guessing the fender bassman was intended as a bass amp at first? So?

i was going to use the bassman as a reference but it seems you have just about answered your own question. I do not like the sound of a bass through most guitar amps. a guitar through a bass amp though sounds pretty good.

and the misfits guitarist played thru a bass amp

The difference between the original Marshall Super Lead amps and Super Bass amps was very little mostly just a couple brightness caps on the inputs... The last recording my band did we used my Mesa Boogie MkIV for the bass tracks. Granted wasnt played very long or very loud but it did sound oh so good! a million times better than the bassists Crate set up... But you do still run the risk of hurting something. Most likely the speakers.

One time, I plugged my strat into my Klon overdrive pedal, into my bassist's
SWR 750/Ampeg 8-10. Maybe we've been living in darkness? They seem to accentuate all the nice lower mid frequencies, which ironically, is why the Bassman is so popular. Solid state, but still better than many guitar amps.

Hey that just gave me an idea. With the recent trend to high head room high power guitar amps maybe its time that I drug that old SVT that I have out. I've balked at retubing it cause of the cost and its so heavy to lug around but it might be a cool tone to play with in the practice room. hmmmm...

I love playing through bass amp. It's great for cleans, or with a DS-1 in front of it.

I love plugging in an acoustic in through a bass amp. Warm and clean.
