Guitar Too Bright! Suggest PUPs Please.

I’ve got a Carvin DC127 – H/X/H, neck thru, soloist shaped body. Neck is maple, swamp ash wings, and ebony fretboard. It’s a REALLY bright sounding guitar, probably due mainly to the hard rock eastern maple thru neck and the ebony fretboard.

Anyway, I pulled the stock pups and dropped in a Pearly Gates in the neck and a Custom 5 in the bridge. However, it’s still way too bright.

I’m thinking I should go with a ’59 neck and a Custom Custom bridge instead, but I’d like to get some opinions. What do you all think would be the best humbuckers to warm this puppy up?

Also the guitar has 500K pots (no surprise there). Should I go so far as to drop in 250K pots?

Thanks.

drop a seth lover and a custom custom in there and say bye bye to brightness.

I'd go with alnico 2 humbuckers. Less glass to the treble and more mids.

A set of Seth Lovers for vintage paf tone.

A Seth Lover neck and Custom Custom bridge for the best of vintage and modern tones...that's the set I use.

I have never tried the Alnico 2 Pros Slash uses, but many here swear by them for a warm smooth tone.

I have the same model guitar as yours (DC12T), but it's ALL maple. :)

Get an Alnico II mag and turn that C5 into a CC and you'll be set. I think that the PG does a good job in this particular guitar. The 59 will only be brighter. If you need something warmer in the neck, go with a APH. That's what I have in mine, an APH/CC combo.

I agree, I would stick with alnico 2 pickups. If you want a higher output bridge pickup, go with the CC. If you want a more vinatge style pickup, go with an Alnico 2 Pro or a Seth Lover. For the neck, the A2P or Seth would be a good choice.
