.....and that's a lot of work for me right now with my back and the nerve damage, but sometimes the desire to tinker and finish some projects overrides the pain.
Most of the changes were routine:
2 USA Dean Hardtail's had new Schaller S-Locks installed and the old Schaller locks are in the parts bin. Each of these and their corresponding straps received the new hardware in the Ruthenium finish. It's an outstanding color and my favorite of the new color.
Mary Kay style strat project received the S-Locks in the Vintage Copper color. The rest of the hardware is gold, but is starting to tarnish a bit. I'll be installing an aged mint green guard from Callaham and aged cream covers and knobs to make it look more relic'd. Ayrton has graciously offered to help with fitting the new pickguard as it will need some adjustment. Pickguard soon to be on order. These Vintage Copper S-Locks are a killer color; they look fantastic.
57' RI LP had the most work. I had put Ruthenium S-Locks on it, but the color wasn't quite right. So, it received a Satin Pearl colored set. Much better. It also received a Faber Tone Lock ABR-1 and Faber Locking Lightweight Tailpiece. The guitar didn't "need" this change and I didn't seek it out. I had looked at the Faber stuff, but I wasn't going to drop $200 on the full locking kit. The stock hardware was really good.
A guy I know over at the MLP forum had a set he wasn't using and we worked out a deal for the full set, with 3 sets of spacers to set the tail piece at different heights as needed, that I couldn't pass up. I got both pieces on and they're high quality. The tail piece is even lighter than the Gibson Historic lightweight piece. Didn't expect that. Put it on using the lowest spacer. The locking bridge is very nice though and the locking pieces went on smoothly, but it's heavier than the original Gibson Historic piece.
I top wrapped the guitar too. I do prefer that on LP's as a general rule, but I'm not sold on it with this one. The first thing I need to do is take the spacers off the tail piece, to increase the break angle over the bridge. The strings are too slinky. I probably should have used new strings too, but the set on there wasn't very old. I'll do that once I recover from all of this.
Thanks for reading and have a good weekend.
