Guitar World Sept. '07 - Paul Gilbert Lessons

If you haven't picked up the Sept. '07 Guitar World with Eddie on the cover, GET IT!!! Quit reading this, go to the store and buy it...and make sure it has the CD. For next month's readers, go order it from GW as a back issue. It is worth it.

I'm not even a shredder player and I appreciate Paul's lessons. The way he explains what's going on, showing the licks at slow speed, then full speed, and really "teaching" you. I like that much more than "here it is slow", "here it is fast" and then move on to the next one, like many other similar videos can be.

Not only is Paul a truly talented and gifted player, he's a musician. Wait, aren't the two the same? Nope. Just because someone can play, doesn't make them a musician. You have to dig deeper than just weedling away at the notes.

To me, the best part of the whole lesson is what he touches on first, rhythm. That right there is what every player should concentrate on constantly for a majority of their practice time.

I plan on incorporating the lessons on the supplied CD in to my routine a bit at a time.

Yeah, I got that disc as well. Good stuff. I also have a couple of his older instructional videos and his teaching style was the same back then only more speed oriented. He seems like a really personable guy as well as being a talented player.
