guitarfetish bodies?

Re: guitarfetish bodies?

Paulownia is a Japanese wood that grows VERY fast, very beautiful grain, lightweight, resonant, soft like pine, very affordable. Overall, I'd say go for it, but I've yet to try one.

Re: guitarfetish bodies?

Don't do it!!! No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, nooooooooooooooo!

I bought a GFS Paulownia Strat body and had to return it. It was absolute, total unusable GARBAGE!

I am piecing a guitar together for my neice (she's a little kid) so I wanted Paulownia for it's light weight, but this body was horrible. It looked nothing like the pics on their website. Nothing lined up. The cutouts and neck pocket were off. Bodu shape was "off". Trem cavity was off center. No standard parts fit.

Don't waste your money. I have some pics at home I'll try to post later.

I ended up buying a Mighty Might Ash body. It's still very lightweight and relatively well priced (although not as light as Paulownia), more durable and just head and shoulders better quality.

You got a bad one.

I have 4 of them right now, they were all just fine. I refinished them because they didn't have colors that I wanted, but for $50ish a piece, well worth it.

GFS claimed it was fine and didn't require replacement. :eyecrazy:

I got a bad GFS paulownia tele with ridiculously misaligned ferrule holes. They exchanged it with all shipping paid by them.

Finish is minimal at best. I got white because it makes a good seal coat after being sanded back. I am in the middle of refinishing it. I had painted it but there were too many scratches in the primer and they showed through the paint (my fault). I just finished sanding it back down and reprimed it. It is being painted duplicolor deep cherry red metallic (always subject to change).

Re: guitarfetish bodies?

I've had mixed luck with GFS - I bought a sunburst double cut that arrived in reasonable condition. I bought a Washburn Delta King neck and with more than a little help from Mark Cearlock it has become quite a nice little guitar to play. It now has a SD Custom 5 and a 490r A5 in the neck.
Next I bought an unfinished Ibanez type super strat body - I'm still working on that one, sanding and spraying-maybe a while before that one is ready to play.
Then I bought another super strat body - both my previous buys were as advertised on their site. This next one was not the same one they had on their photo., while the front had fewer marks on it the back was scraped and scratched all over. It seems they had several of this model and sent out any one they wanted. After complaining it seems they would be happy to give me a refund if I paid for the return postage...but when you add up the cost of postage and insurance, well over $25 - it was hardly worth for a body that cost less than $35!
So it seems some are OK and others are a bit of a lucky dip... you never know what you are going to get.

Those cheap clearance bodies are a real crapshoot. They're mostly junk brand guitars that were never finished. Stick with the GFS branded bodies and you should be ok.

Re: guitarfetish bodies?

thanks for the info all! At present time, I dont need any hassles, so Ill hold off. maybe down the road when/if things settle down at home and I can gamble....

Re: guitarfetish bodies?

I got a Charvette strat type body for sale in the Trading Post you can have wicked cheap.

Well, I'm hoping that by the time the latest one is completed I'll have a fun partscaster - not sure the scratched/scraped back will ever look good but at least the front is looking good now that the pickups and other parts have been added.
Mark Cearlock is working on it now to wire it up... hope to be able to try it out on the weekend. We really shouldn't expect too much from a body that costs $25 -$35 anyone have experience buffing up a body with the help of an electric drill attachment?
