Re: GuitarFetish / GFS
Most (if not all) of GFS's stuff is rebranded MIC stuff. Artec makes most of their pups, and you can get them direct from Artec for less than what GFS sells them for. http://www.caliguitar.com/pickup/guitar_pickups.htm Or, "guitarmadness" on Ebay sells some really nice sounding cheap pups. They're MIK but for the minimum $ they cost, it's well worth it. http://stores.ebay.com/guitarmadnessguitarmadness?_dmd=2&_nkw=humbuckers
The "59er" pups sound GREAT (if low wind PAF clones are your thing) and they're available in double cream, for that 70's Dimarzio look.
I tend to like Cali Guitar for single coils better and GM for their humbuckers. And they're all really affordable.
Oh yeah, pretty much anything GFS sells, you can find cheaper just by searching on Ebay for them. Ive bought a couple bodies and necks from GFS, (NOT from their "buyout sale"!) and they're consistently bad-of the 3 necks, one was twisted, one the frets were just unsusable (I had to have a fret job done just to use it, and that cost just as much as the neck did) and one the fret-board came off by itself
I ordered tuners, and got lefty ones instead of the right-ies I ordered. I got a couple bodies, on one, every single hole in it was drilled in the wrong place. The other one was supposed to be that "banana cream" yellowed white, but when it showed up it was so GREEN it might have been an "antigua" one... ugh. So yeah, I don't have good luck with GFS...
