Re: Guitars that dig the ribs would be...

Les Pauls are made to be played low-slung. They look stupid high up so...why a need for any contour?

Re: Guitars that dig the ribs would be...

Personally, I can go either way, but I thought it'd be interesting, because of the recent Tele discussions. I wouldnt turn one down that's for sure.

I was just watching David Gilmour play a godltop on the '' On an Island '' tour, and he plays it pretty high, as high as he does any guitar now. I didn't think it looked stupid. I've seen many people play em at regular and high-ish heights. The reason is simple : These players find it easier to play when the guitar is high, and you are not just playing power chords and riffs on the 3 lower strings. It's manageable low, but some prefer it high. Also, looking at videos of Les Paul himself in the earlier days, I don't think you can say that the design was '' made to play low strung''. It works for some, but not for all.

Anyways, I voted that you could add a tummy cut for sure. I don't see why not. Maybe make it an option though, as not everyone is into it.

Said yes - BUT - I don't care enough to not buy one if it doesn't have the tummy cut because I am not that bothered by it.

Plus, I'll take double binding on a Tele or a Les Paul over a tummy cut.

No.... I rather get a Strat. ... I would pick a tele over a LP if I have a choice.

That was definately something in my head, If I had total control.

Re: Guitars that dig the ribs would be...

i am extremely attracted to guitars that are slab like... Tele's and LP's fit the bill.... i oddly play strats mostly but the slab shape of Teles and Les Pauls as well as some of the Ernie Ball guitars get me going.. i love that feeling of no contours... i love the look of USA Tele Deluxes but i hate the tummy cut on them!

It's alright, I won't tell the lady in your life!

Re: Guitars that dig the ribs would be...

Generally I doubt I'll ever feel a serious need to own a Tele or an LP (other than the Partiot I have on layaway) but if I'd ever did and given the choice I'd def. opt to have a tummy cut.

Re: Guitars that dig the ribs would be...

I don't have a big tummy (yet) so a tummy cut isn't a must. An arm contour would be nice on a telecaster though, though again, not a must.

Re: Guitars that dig the ribs would be...

I like Teles, but I also like the neck-up feel you get with SGs, Vs, Explorers, etc, and tummy cuts, IMHO, just make the neck want to stick out even more perpindicular to my body. Perhaps if I didn't have quite so much tummy to fill that cut it would work out better...

Re: Guitars that dig the ribs would be...

I center my guitars over my private area, so I don't need a tummy contour. On my Telecaster, LP, and Artcore, it is more annoying when the edge of the top rubs against my forearm. But it's not that bad.

Re: Guitars that dig the ribs would be...

I had this very problem with my ASAT yet not my LP's. Anyway, I sold the ASAT a while ago not just for financial reasons but because it always felt sort of uncomfortable and awkward. I was lucky enough recently to get a Tele style guitar with a tummy cut and forearm contours and it's much MUCH better, more comfortable than a Strat for me.
