Guitars with an inherent greasy/sleazy tone!!???

Phantasmagoria

watch where you point that sabre
I'm talking about the kinda axe you would be proud to whip out & jam with at a strip bar..

Something that can't help but wring out notes that reek of cheap booze & dirty love...

Yeah ..I have one :bigthumb:

My Axl Badwater 1216 ..cheap nasty tone at a cheap nasty price ($150)

...so greasy ..so good!

I need to play her more often.. :bigthumb:

How about you????

Les Paul Junior.

Gibson semi-hollow thin line archtops (335/345/355, etc.).

Les Paul on neck pickup.

Tele on neck pickup.

SG on neck pickup.

Well, ya get the point...

The guitar tone in the video does not sound like what I am talking about, though.

Re: Guitars with an inherent greasy/sleazy tone!!???

Maybe not ...& it's got a suitably ****ty recording (made it with my handheld voice recorder.) but that's some very sweet sleazy tone all the same ...it's the overtones I think. Pure sex :D

P'ups that came with it ('EMG Designed' unpotted passives) are some of my faves ever..such a unique tone.

She's got the look too :bigthumb:

A guitar that's strung for E, but tuned in Eb will do it for you. It's also more of a style thing than any tone you'll get from a particular instrument though.

Re: Guitars with an inherent greasy/sleazy tone!!???

Strap choice probably has more to do with it.

Very true...

If she moves around too much, somebody's gonna be pretty sore

Re: Guitars with an inherent greasy/sleazy tone!!???

It's not the guitar, it's not the amp, it's not the strap.... It's the PLAYER. Example: Billy Gibbons..... Prove me wrong.

Re: Guitars with an inherent greasy/sleazy tone!!???

"Greasy" to me is not cheap sounding fizzy butt rock OD tone. It's juicy, gristle-chewin', low midrangey, bluesy, breaking up with a heavy right hand tone.

Re: Guitars with an inherent greasy/sleazy tone!!???

P90 into a cranked old tweed or plexi, that is what greasy/sleazy tone is to me.

Re: Guitars with an inherent greasy/sleazy tone!!???

Well I was talking literal real life sleazy & greasy not fancy guitar tone connoisseur terminology sleazy/greasy. In the end if its greasy and sleazy it's got to be strip bar greasy & sleazy not '67 Les Paul into a '58 Plexi (not going to find too many of those in dingy strip joints :lmao: ) corksniffer/blues Lawyer "sleazy" tone (lol!). That stripper vid I posted up there and the guitar track/tone were pretty much crying out for each other...literally oozing genuine sleaziness/greasiness. That's REAL sleaze :D

Check out this video with the tremolo in the beginning..

Hmm..greasy? well fine, but my axe sounds so ****ing greasy I don't even need a tremolo to do that **** (@ 0:22 sec in my stripper vid)..just hammer-on's/pull off's = pure grease all the way :lmao:

Bottom line I meant tone that actually sounds greasy/grubby & sleazy & is'nt just labelled that by self proclaimed guitar terminologists (?) :bigthumb:

Dirty fingers!!?? Yeah..that probably has something to do with it :D

Re: Guitars with an inherent greasy/sleazy tone!!???

Looks like a nice no nonsense "grab & go" kinda axe ..But how does it sound?

Pretty sure the bottom's nice & phat but the top might need some tweaking...

What was the question?

Re: Guitars with an inherent greasy/sleazy tone!!???

The OP's description screams Les Paul Junior - one P-90 in a beat to death Les Paul.

The recording provided was just to *ahem* dry, and perhaps a bit busy for the background motion.

I submit this...
