Guitars with HORRIBLE Resale Value

Can add any 'custom made' guitar for yourself from a boutique builder. I get them made for myself... but I always warn people that they are not ones to be moved on later lol. So better make sure you like it or know what you're getting into.

Indeed. My Warmoth guitars and bass, as well as my Orpheo bass, are invaluable to me and I would never think about selling them. However, I have watched many used Warmoth guitars go on the market for extremely affordable prices compared to ordering the same neck and body from Warmoth directly.

People who know how to piece together a parts Warmoth using used necks and/or bodies can get a bargain.

I picked up a used Bocote Warmoth neck on ebay back in 2012 or so for under $300 when that same neck would have cost $700 from Warmoth directly. Other than that, all my Warmoth necks and bodies have been custom orders placed by me through Warmoth.

Warmoth builds are so cheap because they are assembled by amateurs. The cost of the value of the labor is factored into the price

I assembled the first 6 Warmoths I owned. I brought the latest one to a luthier. There isn't much of a difference IMO. However, a majority of the people assembling their own Warmoths might make your statement ring true.

yeah, the guitars ive build for myself arent worth much to other people id guess, even if they kick ass. used warmoth type builds are usually great deals for what ya get. used usa made washburns and hamers used to be very reasonably priced, but that isnt necessarily the case any longer

I think the price of a new Warmoth from the factory is a bargain. They have streamlined the entire process allowing them to charge fair prices across the board for people who do not mind CNC-made precision. Assembly is a different story...

The 4 factors affecting resale value of most Warmoths are:

1. It is not going to appreciate in any way because Warmoth is not a "legacy/prestige brand"

2. Finding a buyer for a used Warmoth is difficult because of the aforementioned factor of it not having the exact specs each individual buyer would order if they could customize it

3. A lot of people mess something up during assembly. 90% of the time it can be corrected, but that takes time/money

4. Ordering a new build is still reasonable versus buying a used build that might not have everything the buyer wants. For half a grand more, most buyers think it would be reasonable to just custom order their own vision.

Yeah, Warmoths I build are so damn quirky that they'd only be good for me. I have sold one before, but I was given all of the parts to assemble it, so it was a net win. I wouldn't sell the other 2.

Id imagine certain custom color axes. I cant imagine reselling a Les Paul Custom or Anything else without a massive loss if it were custom ordered in Pepto Pink.
