I've been eyeballin' the Danelectro Dano '59 reissue but was wondering if you fellas could help out with other guitar brands that make guitars with lipstick pickups? Post pics and links if you can!

Thanks for the help/look/info.

Re: Guitars with Lipstick Pickups?

I know Jackson/Charvel used to make a guitar with Lipsticks in it. I think it was the Surfcaster or something. You could also fit a garden variety MIM strat with Lipsticks. duncan makes 'em in a size that'll fit.

Yeah, the surfcaster is pretty groovy....

And I totally dig what you're saying about SD Lipsticks Benjy, but I'm looking for guitars that were designed specifically FOR/WITH lipstick pickups, not after market mods and such. Thanks for the suggestion though!

Re: Guitars with Lipstick Pickups?

Yeah, completely forgot about the Talman.

As far as getting an axe specifically designed for Lipsticks, I'd stick to dano or mod something that's semi-hollow to fit some 'tubes. I think that something solid with Lipsticks would be bright and thin in a bad way.

Re: Guitars with Lipstick Pickups?

I have one with the p-90's. The stock p-90's are horrible!

What's up with lipstick pups, I've never played any and I don't think I've heard any (atleast that I know of). Just going off of looks I'm picturing a very twangy sound.

In a Dano, they're twangy, but not like a Gretsch or a Fender. They've got kindo of a nasally thunk to them without much bass and very little output. It's a very cool sound that not many people can pull off.

Jimmy Page played dano's with lipsticks on some led zeppelin songs not sure which but they were used live and in the studio as far as i know anyway. Obviously not as a main guitar though.
