Guitars with the best/most unusua/eye-catchingl/weirdest tops you have...

Phantasmagoria

watch where you point that sabre
I'll go first..

My $200 (+ free shipping!) Grote semi-hollow/thinline-type I got off-ebay.

Top is Tiger maple (actual cap, not veneer)...and to be honest I've never come across another guitar with a top even remotely like this. When it catches the sun it's looks unreal..

Screenshot from a video of mine ..cuz I can't find pics right now..

I wanted a semi-hollow that did'nt make me look like a grand-pa (*ahem* .. 335) and this was it :bigthumb:

It sounds amazing after a pup swap. (the original pup's were pretty "different" sounding as well :lmao:) and plays like butter after I filed down a fret or two...

It's also one of the fastest playing/shreddeist guitars I own...go figure :laugh2:

It’s a real maple top on alder, unlike the “foto-flame” style of the earlier models. Moisture would cause them to start coming away from the body, same issue the actual Fender Foto-Flame guitars had. I think it’s awesome. It’s the most colourful guitar I have. I have other instruments with figured/quilted etc. tops but they’re a lot more subdued than these flames of hell.

Looks great on stage too.

It’s the perfect combination of Fender and Gibson. 24.7” scale, but a thin neck, alder body and of course the whammy bar. Even the body shape is kind of like a strat and SG combined.

They don’t make them anymore but it would be the perfect guitar for someone used to Gibsons wanting to get in to superstrats.

This is nothing super fancy but I really like the flame maple cap on this bass. My favorite bass to play, too. I have a Schecter guitar with a flame veneer that looks nice in photos, but IRL it's obviously a thin veneer and seems subtly tacky.

Gotta admit I'm more comfortable playing something a bit beat up and worn, really nice high-finish instruments just make me worry I'll mess them up.
