Gushing over Duncans

Yo Tone Junkies!

I acquired a late model Fender Highway-1 HSS a while back. I loved this guitar for her play-ability but I found the OEM Hot Single-Coils and Atomic Humbucker to be generally harsh, noisy and lacking in response compared to my previously favorite Fender American Deluxe with Samarian Cobalt Noiseless pickups.

I've had good experiences with DiMarzios in my Les Paul days. But I didn't like the looks of any of their humbucker designs as a replacement for my Fender. Seymour Duncan Humbuckers had the classic design with the visual appeal that matched the original look.

The OEM single coils had way too hum when overdriven. For the single coil replacements I looked to Duncan also and upgraded to noiseless Stacks. My setup is now as follows:

Neck: Vintage Hot Stack Plus STK-S7
Middle: Classic Stack Plus STK-S4
Bridge: Duncan Custom TB-5

Rich cream from the bridge to screaming ice on the neck! I've never enjoyed playing clean straight to the amp as I have since this upgrade. The harmonics through effects like my Tube Screamer, Metal Muff and vintage Keeley modded DS-1 are all over the top yet smooth through and through. My Highway-1 is now my #1 :headbang:

I am totally looking forward to trying other Duncan models on my future projects! :naughty:
