So, I'm on a break between sets on Saturday. This guy asks a bunch of questions about what I'm playing. Seeing as I'm a "player" he turns me on to this sweet deal. Check it out (shhhhh!)

He has - get this - a pair of humbuckers for sale. But not just ANY humbuckers. These are gen-u-ine GIBSON 57 CLASSICS!!! And that's not all...they are GOLD covered. Now - the thing here is, listen up, the thing is these pickups are smoking hot! They will make the amp sound like it is on 11!!!!!

Seriously man. ONLY $250 for the pair.

And me with only a Duncan Custom and a PG....

Love the guy that tries to sell you something at your gig. That's his marketing plan? Go somewhere where there is 1 or 2 people playing guitar and then pitch his wares? Brilliant!

Well they're not exactly smoking hot but Classic 57's actually are amazing pickups, as are most Gibson's. And they're expensive as hell brand new. Still weird that he approached you to try and sell them though lol

I have a set of silver covered '57s in the basement you can have for half that price. Then again I think most of the members here have a set of '57s that is what brought us to SD.

I don't know why '57 Classics get such a bad rap... aside from the price. Maybe not the pinnacle, but they are a great PAF.

I get fantastic results from them; in fact, I just did my SD Friendly Solo Contest 2 clip contribution with them (heck, the 1st one too).

(That being said, the SH-5 and Seth Lovers are still my fave humbuckers overall)

My Epiphone ES-175 came stock with a set of '57s. I don't think they are coming out of there any time soon.

IMHO they are a fine model. Just not the BEST like some of the owners IME think. Definitely not worth the price compared to SD and others.

That was a great guitar model btw. Had one for quite some time. I just couldn't justify so many guitars but definitely remarkable value.

My friends band has a second guitarist/singer and he was talking about how when he bought his Les Paul he made the previous owner put the original bridge pickup back in the guitar before he bought it. I asked what kind of pickup was in there and he said some "Seymour Duncan metal BS". He said he wanted that classic Gibson sound so that's why he had it removed. When he put the pickup back in he never bothered to resolder the cover and the pickup was badly microphonic so I said I would solder the cover back on and repott the pickup for him. While repotting I tested the resistance and it was a 500T. I also found the "Duncan Metal BS" that he was talking about was still in the guitar case and it was a Seth that he let me keep for my trouble. But at least he had that classic Gibson sound!

Come to think of it, if all you ever hear are stock pickups, 57s are well in the top half. Especially when you play a lot of instruments in the lower to mid priced bracket.

I think the '57 Classics are among Gibson's finest pickups and they hold their own given the right guitar/situation.

The best thing the 57 Classics have ever done (and the burstbuckers too) is inspire quite a few winders to start businesses after having played them. The 57s rank 2nd in my worst ever pickups list. I remember buying some cheapo gfs pickups and being astonished they wiped the floor with the 57s.
