I am using a H/B in a esquire using the SD wiring diagram, does anyone know how it would be wired using a import switch ? it is a 8 pole all in line switch, thanx...

Re: H/B in a esquire

Welcome to the forum.

Are you wishing to wire the single HB to an Esquire-style three mode switch...

Pos 1 = Volume, no tone
Pos 2 = Volume and Tone controls
Pos 3 = Preset muffled "bass" tone

...or a Master Vol, Master Tone + selectable coil-tapping idea like this schematic? http://www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=esquire_hb

If you are following the SD schematic diagram above, the switch contact translation is as follows:

Visualise the CRL-type switch contacts numbered,
Lower pole, l-r, 1 - 4
Upper pole, l-r, 5 - 6
(Red will be #4. White will be #5.)

On your import, eight-in-line switch, visualise the contacts numbered, l-r, 1 - 8.

Terminal 1 is linked to terminal 6.
Terminal 2 is linked to terminal 7 and then to 8 and on to ground.
Terminal 3 is linked to the volume pot input leg
Terminal 4 is PU Red
Terminal 5 is PU White
Terminal 6 is linked to terminal 1
Terminal 7 is linked to terminal 2, terminal 8 and ground
Terminal 8 is linked to terminal 7 and to ground.

Re: H/B in a esquire

in otherwords, looking at the import switch from left to right,

1234-L and 4321 R

I have the ground on R4,R3 and L2...
I have a jumper from R2 to L1
The black from the P/U and the Volume goes to L5
The red goes to R4
The white goes to L3
The green and bare go to ground also...

Am I correct ?

And again I thank you...

Re: H/B in a esquire

I always regard the CRL three-way switch as:-
Upper pole - Wiper 1 2 3
Lower pole - 1 2 3 Wiper

This interpretation translates to the import switch as 1 2 3 Wiper, Wiper 1 2 3.

Using your terminology, this becomes 1 2 3 4 4 1 2 3.
