8.2->9.2 is a big jump. 8.9->9.2 noticeable but not a big difference.

as far as i know, no pg is hand guided. they are all machine wound, but by the actual machine from kalamazoo

But again, that isn't necessarily a jump in heat. But my ears are tempered to differences like PG to Distortion, not Seth/59/PG

Not anymore. I had one. It was great.

Mine was wound by MJ. But there's that "master crafstman" field for others to fill.

I have a handful of MJ-wound pickups. While I wouldn't bother putting one in a cheap guitar, they can literally transform a good guitar. Worth spending the $$ on something special to make it even special-er.

I went ahead and ordered a regular PG. I know I like it so I know what I’m getting with it.

I probably would have tried a Hades had there been one in a store near me. Oh well.

Why would you need a PG from the custom shop? What would be different?

The Custom Shop version has different specs. It's wound hotter than the standard PG. The CS also has option for potted, unpotted, lightly potted etc. I have a set of the CS PG wound by MJ. The neck is 7.7k and the bridge is 8.7k. I got them used for a good deal on a whim. I haven't tried the standard PG.
