hafler/bogner triple giant preamp

anyone ever play through one of these? haven't played one before, but i can get a good deal on one if i decide to jump the gun on it, and just sell it off if i don't like it. i read some reviews on HC, but those can only be so helpful  and i know i can always get good advice on here.

it sounds like it's pretty much what i'm after...a good, warm clean channel, doesn't have to be the best but at least decent. a lower gain/crunch channel, and a lead channel that can do the hard rock/metal thing without getting too muddy or unfocused.

what do you guys think?

i've also been considering a marshall jmp-1 as the preamp to put in my rack setup, but i am open to pretty much any suggestions.

Re: hafler/bogner triple giant preamp

I've only heard a Hafler Triple Giant in person once; it sounded warmer than my Hafler T3, but not quite as articulate with high gain. (That could well be due to player preference/settings, though.)

Re: hafler/bogner triple giant preamp

if yer getting for under 250, do it no matter what. they arent all that bad at all. nice tones can be had. good luck!!

Re: hafler/bogner triple giant preamp

are they good, or are they just not bad? if i'd be better off waiting it out and saving my money a little longer for the jmp-1 or any other preamp, i'm more than willing to do so. i just don't want to waste time or money with something i won't be completely satisfied with.

Re: hafler/bogner triple giant preamp

hafler triple giant is, IMHO, a cooler choice than the run of the mill off-the-shelf sound and vibe of the jmp1.

don't listen to me though, I play a pro gap ultra rocktron.

alright, thanks man. unfortunately the one i had my eye on has been sold. but maybe if i see a good ebay deal or something then i'll jump on it. thats what i like about buying used...if you don't like it, just sell it for however much you bought it for :D
