Hagstrum iii parts

I have this Hagstrum 3 come to my bench today, calls for some "unusual" electronic parts, .003uf mica cap and .04uf mica cap, I dont have those values, plus a 12K 1% 1/4w resistor that I do not have. I need a source for these or are there substitutes I can use? Also the 250K pot is completely shot, that I can get but I have 500K pots in stock, (I have 500's in all my guitars they just sound better to me) would it make too much of a difference in a European guitar to use 500K? Any help sourcing these parts is greatly appreciated.

Re: Hagstrum iii parts

A 500k pot is going to be 'brighter' than a 250k, no matter where the guitar was made. The Hagstom singlecoils are a weak/bright pickup. If this is your guitar you are doing then test them yourself and put in what you like. If it is for a client then you'll most likely want to replace with like.

And any electronics store will have the caps and resistor......these too are not unusual items. They form part of filters I think for switchable bass and treble-cut, and the resistor I think is a a quiet/mute mode. There is no need to match material, just value......and even then you can be out as the value only gives the corner frequency for cut.

Re: Hagstrum iii parts

Hagstrum is now back trying to get foothold in the US. They would probably be stoked to help you. What year is the guitar?

While they are a Chinese company now (since early 2004) -they still produce the famous vintage Swedish models

I'd inquire direct about sourcing OEM parts if you want to do the job Vintage or Modern correct. They will either help you or give you the contact of their parts supplier.
