This tuning helps you play the lower 6 strings of a 7-string like a 6-string, at the expense of ruing the upper section, which defeats the purpose of having a 7-string in the first place. B-standard and drop A is all I need.

I can get good drone chords out of both, but 5th at the very high end is titillating in many ways. I trying to write something with both variances.

So you can go from treating it like a regular 6 + a low B, to a baritone + a high E. Both of these approaches completely miss the point of having a 7 string guitar.

So you can't use the same old chord shapes? Who cares? Learn some super basic theory, like what makes up a chord, and figure out what low note to add.

That video is exactly how I play every B-standard (6 strings) songs on a 7. E.g. Kataklysm. Super handy when there's no B-standard sixer around...

Just wow. You know, I've playing a 7 for a while, I don't care about this mystical "missing the point thing" ... it was simply an alternative and a way to tune.
