Hamer Fretless Bass

I found one of these for sale and would like a little more information. Can anyone tell me about these? Were there any import versions that I should be aware of?

I'm not interested in hearing about alternatives, just more interested in whether this is a good deal or not.

If there is a no small usa after the Hamer logo it is an import. Otherwise I would need to know serial number and model name to tell you more. F/S price? More info need to help you.

I doubt that the pickups would have died, so it probably just needs some new pots and or a new preamp. I probably won't buy it, but for $75, I thought it might be worth it to take a look. If it's an import, then maybe not.

From that shot it looks like an import but as you said $75. Snap it up and get a wiring kit from RS I bet it will be cool. SHOULD it be a USA(possible it is) RUN to get it!!! :eek5:

BTW that is a Cruise fretless and I bet it is a misprint price or a fool owns it. COULD be an import though.

Dontcha love those ads where the pic is so bad you can't really tell what the person's selling?

Wait a sec. The pic has dots on the fretboard. I have a USA fretless Cruise Bass. I just opened the case to check and it DOES NOT have dots on the fretboard. Just the little dots on the side of the neck, and the cheat lines (which IIRC are maple strips inserted in the ebony fretboard). I don't think I've ever even seen an import Cruise fretless.

There are a couple of possibilities here:
a.) This is an import Cruise fretless and the fretboards on those had dots.
b.) A previous owner took a fretted bass and sanded the frets down or pulled them out. That would easily explain the $75 price tag.

There is also of course the possibility that this is a fretless Cruise that was special ordered from Hamer's USA custom shop with dots on the fretboard. There are a lot of one of a kind custom ordered Hamer USA instruments out there.
