Re: Hamer Guitars - the history & discussion / picture thread

I own a Hamer, it's a good guitar.

But honestly, aside from a slight headstock cut, Hamer mostly made exact rip off copies of other American companies. Hamer was shameless in almost all respects for most every one of it's regular production guitars. -just continuous line walking and patent and trademark infringement

Is Hamer really ethically any better than the Chibson brands everyone loathes nowadays?

A few years ago I passed on a black Californian with a maple fretboard and black boomerang inlays (I cant remember what theyre exactly called), anyways yea I regret not going for that one. It was priced at like $1500 and at the time I was after something so I left it go. I cant even remember what year it was maybe 1988-90. It was reverse headstock also if Im remembering correctly. There was a red with white pickguard 83 (I think) KK Downing V on ebay forever because they wanted $5500 for it or something like that. Wouldn't mind trying that either... Some day.

The Scepter is another one I really like a lot.

BIG difference between selling a guitar that looks a lot like another brand vs. actually putting the other brand's name on your product and passing it off as legit!
I have never seen someone on a stage playing a Hamer and mistook it for a Gibson. If nothing else, the more sensible headstock shape is quite distinctive.
I WILL grant you, though, that they are not exactly the most original of designs. I am ok with that. (Never owned a Hamer. Would be happy to have one.)
