Im looking at a Hamer saft. Its an import of course of the double cut model.. but its a color Ive never seen one in before. appears in decent shape aside from one chip at the base.. HOWEVER.. It has the dreaded "used" stamp on the back.. Avoid or snag?? Its about $225

Re: Hamer SAFT: how is it /what was new price?

I actually have one that I'm getting ready to put up for sale. The SAFT (forget what the initils stand for) is a very decent guitar. I have seen them in a variety of finishes, mostly of the flame maple/transparent type. Sunburst, cherry sunburst, blue, kind of standard. A few in black as well.

Mine is a TOM/Stop setup with dual humbuckers. Really a very nice playing guitar for the $$. The DD designed pickups in it are suprisingly good, mine has the Distortion set in it.

I would be somewhat leary about the "used" stamp on it...not sure what that means. IIRC I paid approx $350 for mine a year and a half or so ago. Mine is the "blueburst". I'd want to play one that said "used" on it first...just to make sure there are no major defects.

used means refurbed. usually a minor finish issue.. They want $230 for it.. blue.. Refurbs dont excite me, but my DK2 was a refurb and it is perfect..
the defect was the sustainer didnt work and they replaced with a normal pup. I got a perfect playing DK2 for just about $240.

I would shop around a lil more. There is a new Blue SATF (Sunburst ArchTop Flame) on Evilbay not stamped Used comparativly priced. It might even be new too.

Re: Hamer SAFT: how is it /what was new price?

I dig those import Hamer Sunbursts. I played a SATQ a while back and was very impressed. The build quality seems very good. The fret work was flawless, inlays had no gaps, binding was perfect, stock pickups weren't bad either. They sounded like a '59 type to me. Beautiful guitar. Unfortunately, that place moved and they aren't a Hamer dealer anymore. In fact, they don't sell any instruments anymore, strictly an amp repair shop now.

Re: Hamer SAFT: how is it /what was new price?

For that price range, I would say yes. Expect to need to get it setup to you feel though. I find with 90% of new import guitars they need a lil TLC to top them off. Gotta make it feel good to you kinda thing. Check out my Friend at http://www.rocketeria.biz He is a great guy to deal with for import Hamers. Tell him I sent ya, then again he might charge ya more. ;)

Ancient thread from beyond......

Hamer Korean made stuff before the XT line can run real nice. The Hamer Slammer Series, NOT Slammer by Hamer, before that were really nice stuff also.
