Hamer standard question...

Dream guitar thread brought to light this question... For years I have lusted for a Hamer standard. Visually and build, its amazing to me. HOWEVER, never having actually been able to play one, I have to wonder if I would even like the feel of the neck.. For those of you who have them, or have owned them, what are they like? Thick and clubby or?? I have a gibson explorer and love that... I think ive read where the Hamers had more of a 59 profile.. ????

Thanks

Re: Hamer standard question...

They vary a bit, but the ones I've played are slightly bigger than my Gibson Explorer; very similar to the LP '50s neck. I'd love to have one, but longcat would kill me if I bought another guitar (honestly I have plenty), not to mention that I can't really afford it presently.

Re: Hamer standard question...

They vary. So.e of the 90s models have flat fairly thin necks.

My 05 had a very weird carve. You could tell it was hand finished..it was a big thick neck from frets 4 onward but they really narrowed it around the cowboy chord positions. It was strange in a good way.

Re: Hamer standard question...

As mentioned they vary. I like fatter necks and my 2001 is that. My older ones from the late '70s are flatter slimmer necks. My '97 Mahogany is somewhat in the middle of them. Hoping my new Shishkov is like my 2001. It has been ordered with a "Vintage carve" that is what my '01 is. Good luck in your search. Bring a wheelbarrow of $1s. :headbang:

Re: Hamer standard question...

Not a standard, but there is a sexy 96 Mirage II with flame Koa top on the bay right now

Re: Hamer standard question...

Thanks for the input! Yeah, I cant gel with the big 50's neck.. Thats what I was afraid they mostly came with..
