Now I've been wanting to do this for some time and i have the necessary parts, but I'm curious as to what the standard number of wraps for both vintage and modern single coils are and would like input from all of you and the collective wisdom of this forum.

About 8,000 turns with 42 gauge heavy-build Formvar-insulated wire is a good place to start for "classic" Strat pickups.

Anyone unwind a coil and rewind the wire onto another coil? I've got a Rio Grande pickup I managed to kill trying to fix the cover and subsequently broke it completely because they are put together so stupidly. I'd like to rewind it on a broke 498T someone gave me. I'm guessing unwinding it to a sewing bobbin is probably my best starting point, right?
