Hanging guitars on the wall - temperature/humidity issues?

I am seeking some input about hanging my guitars on the wall. I searched the forum and read the thread about guitar hangers. My concerns relate to temperature and (lack of) humidity. I'm in CT, so it can get quite cold here. I would use the wall mounts designed for this purpose and would mount to the wall studs. I've read that it's ok to do this on inside walls. In this case, the the other side of the wall is my garage. Would this be safe to do with my electrics? Acoustic?

Unless the instrument is actually touching the wall, I'd only worry about the temp of the room.

I would be more concerned about the heat source you have in your home. Don't hang the guitars over the radiators or worse if you have forced hot air you want to keep the guitars as far away from the vents as possible. Then what you need to do is go buy a room humidifier. A decent one will run about 100$. The ideal humidity for a guitar is between 45 to 50% humidity. What I usually do is I turn the humidifier on and let it run for 24 hours to get the room wet, then just try to maintain it. You want a room humidifier that is big enough to handle the square footage of th area where the guitars are being stored.

Now the other option is to store the guitars in the cases. This will be the best because you can monitor it more closely and the guitars are safer. With acoustic guitars I would recommend buying a soundhole type of humidifier in addition to the room humidifier. I use Dampits in my acoustics. Works great and I check them once a week. Once the air temp drops to the freezing point I check them 2 x a week. Another good thing to do is have a Hygrometer mounted on the wall near the guitars so you know when you need to adjust the amount of water being added to the atmosphere.

I wouldn't hang them from the headplate at all. Something that supports them from below the body is required, IMHO.
